Popeye (Arcade): The reason I got into computers in the first place was to play this game. There was no other reason. I had played this game in arcades, and I was so addicted to it I knew I had to have it. Unfortunately, it wasn't headed to my Odyssey 2 (not in the US, at least!), so I was out of luck unless I could convince my parents to get me another game system. No such luck! I had to try something else, something educational. I happened to see a Popeye cart running on an old Atari 800, and I was stunned. The game was almost perfect, and far better than on any other system. Hence, I convinced my parents that I needed a computer - so I could LEARN how to program, word process, etc.. HA! Joke's on them - I just wanted to play Popeye! It all turned out ok, though, as I wound up using the computer for far more than Popeye playing...but I still love the game. In fact, I have a full size Popeye machine at my apartment! Memorable moment: There are many, but dropping the bucket on Brutus' head tops the list. |
